Opening Thursday, January 9th at Gallery Paule Anglim, San Francisco is “Hello Green Cosmos,” a solo exhibition by James Sterling Pitt. For the exhibition Pitt will exhibit new works consisting of three-dimensional painted wood sculptures placed on shelves and pedestals. Carved and assembled from sheets of wood, each subtly colorful piece is a concrete rendering of a chosen moment in the life of the artist. Pitt’s process first records his experience of a time and place in a drawn sketch, sometimes created on-site. Description, color and elements are codified, distilled and hand hewn into abstract form contained within a soft square. The resulting wood constructions are realized within a very personal system whose format allows subjectivity and impressions to meld with elements (weather, time of day), sensations (scents and music) and associations of the intellect (literature or historical figures.)

Opening Reception: Thursday, January 9th, 2014. 5:30-7:30pm.

“Hello Green Cosmos” is on view through February 8th, 2014.
