May 5 – June 13, 2015
Screening: June 15, 7:15 pm

Now on view at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, Conscious Knocks Unconscious is the first monographic survey of work by New York based artist Julia Heyward, sometimes known as Duka Delight. Conscious Knocks Unconscious features early (1971–1984) experiments by Heyward in film, performance, and photography. The exhibition includes video work by Heyward, various forms of performance documentation, storyboards and scripts, photographs, the original costume from the 1984 performance No Local Stops, and more.

At the close of the exhibition, the Wattis hosts a screening of works by Heyward and peers, beginning at 7:15 pm on June 15. The screening includes Three Evenings on a Revolving Stage, a program of performances curated by Jean Dupuy at the Judson Memorial Church (New York) in 1976.
